The founding brothers

The Laganière brothers were born into a family with a particular love of beer and gatherings. It's no surprise they developed a love and passion for this beverage! At a very young age, they began brewing all-grain beer in the family garage, using makeshift equipment. They gradually equipped themselves to even have a nano-brewery at home! While studying administration at university, they quietly developed a business plan that led to the opening of their first brewery: Le bistro de la rue Richelieu, as we know it today. Beer has always been brewed with passion and pleasure. Although they currently have a team to rely on for production, they remain at the heart of the creations and decisions surrounding beer production. "We brew what we love and we love what we drink!"

Our story from the beginning

NOVEMBER 2011

In the midst of developing their business plan, the Laganière brothers fell in love with the premises on Richelieu Street. After a few visits, the lease was signed.

NOVEMBER 2012

First unofficial opening. At the time, Lagabière only offered guest beers. The first beer to appear on the menu was Captain Brian, a 4% alcohol blonde beer.

FEBRUARY 2013

The official opening party took place on February 9th. There was an impressive crowd, and the menu featured only beers brewed on-site. It was the beginning of the Lagabière concept.

NOVEMBER 2015

With the growing success of the restaurant over the years, the selection of beers on the menu has suffered. The Laganière brothers' goal is to find a location for an industrial brewery, primarily to help supply the bistro with its regular beers.

MARCH 2016

A new location was found in the Iberville industrial park. Construction began, and the brothers worked tirelessly all summer to set up their new brewery.

JULY 2016

The first brews begin at the end of July. A few test brews are made and only put into barrels.

AUGUST 2016

At the Chambly Beers and Flavors Festival, Lagabière won first prize in the La Grande Brasse competition with their most popular beer: Ta Meilleure.

SEPTEMBER 2016

Ta Meilleure is launching in 341ml bottles, alongside Southshore IPL, as well as Order of Toast, Smoke Without Fire and Soothing, the latter in 500ml bottles.

SEPTEMBER 2017

A year after bottling the products, the range was revised and Lagabière switched to canned products. They completely abandoned bottles in favor of this container.

September 2017

A year after the products were canned, the beers were a phenomenal success. Their flagship, Ta Meilleure, quickly became a staple on the Quebec brewing scene. Major investments in equipment were made to ensure production growth, in line with demand.

July 2019

The brewery's growth is too great, and the space it occupies has become too small. Plans for a new building are beginning, and a plot of land is in sight in the industrial park in Iberville.

Since its creation

In our view, beer should be a source of pleasure. That's why at our small microbrewery, we love what we do and enjoy brewing all our beers. This love of beer is also reflected in our attentive work that respects the product.

The founding brothers remain at the center of innovation every day. We're proud to be the first to bring a NEIPA to the Quebec market, and we continue to innovate every day, searching for beer ideas that will never leave you indifferent!

Since the first brews in the family garage, the Laganière brothers' intention has always been to let as many people as possible taste their products, of which they are proud. That's why, in November 2012, Lagabière was born as a small bistro-brewery. Located in the heart of Vieux-Saint-Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Lagabière quickly became a must-visit in the region for microbrewery beer lovers. In 2016, the founding brothers had the idea of opening a second brewery, this time in the industrial sector. The idea was to produce bottled beers for distribution on the Quebec market. The success of Lagabière products, now in cans, helped the brewery grow in record time and continues to bear fruit today.
